Manual Osteopathic Therapy (MOT) is a hands-on, holistic approach to healthcare that focuses on restoring balance and function to the body by addressing the root causes of pain and dysfunction. It is based on osteopathic principles, which emphasize the interconnection between the body’s structure and function. The core principle is that the Body is a Unit and all parts are interconnected, and so dysfunction in one area can affect other areas. The other important principle is that the body has a powerful and innate ability to heal itself and our therapist works to support the body’s natural ability to heal. Manual Osteopathy is gentle and non-invasive and uses techniques like postural assessment, muscle energy, fascial release, lymphatic drainage, craniosacral therapy and visceral manipulation.
We take a unique and hands-on approach to manual osteopathic therapy that is focused on treating the whole body. A trained manual osteopath at South West Massage And Wellness Centre can provide the combined benefits of a massage therapist, chiropractor, and physiotherapist all in one. A manual osteopath in Calgary SE possesses extensive anatomical knowledge and will utilize these skills and a vast amount of knowledge to improve a patient’s mobility, reduce pain and stiffness, and restore balance to their body. Our talented team will administer this effective treatment with the utmost care and professionalism that is unparalleled so that osteopathy can be as relaxing as it will be conducive to your healing and body restoration.
What to expect in a Manual Osteopathic Treatment?
It is recommended that you arrive early to fill out the Intake Form with as much detail as possible as this will assist the therapist during the session and allow the therapist to spend more time on the other aspects of the appointment.
What to wear?
Please wear or bring shorts and a tank top or t-shirt. Jeans, large/thick clothing, and restrictive clothing (spandex, compressive items etc.) are not recommended as they can inhibit the physical assessment and postural assessment. The therapist needs to be able to feel the bony landmarks and visually see your posture.
During the Appointment:
The therapist will go over your Health History & reasons for booking the appointment, and proceed with an assessment and creating a treatment plan. This process can feel quite in depth, but it is very important to understand the body as a whole to improve outcomes and exceed your expectations.
